Pastor’s Sneak Peek for Sunday, June 13, 2021
Dear family and friends of First Pres,
Last Sunday we had a wonderful service where we honored rising middle schoolers and celebrated the gifts and graces of Susan Dodd as she has helped us through the pandemic and interim in finding the church’s new minister of music. We are going to continue with the festive spirit this weekend as well as we will meet and commission our new minister of music, Dr. Reid Masters! If you have not had the opportunity to meet Reid, please come this weekend to meet and get to know him; you will see why the Minister or Music Search Team fell in love with him!
This Sunday’s sermon is entitled, The Whimsical Hand of Providence, and we will be using two different texts. The Old Testament reading is from 1 Samuel 15:34-16:13 and shares the Story of what God looks for in a leader. Our New Testament reading is from Mark 4:26-34. This reading is about what the Kingdom and dominion of God is like in the world as Jesus uses parables to describe the indescribable. It would truly benefit you to read all of Mark 4 because it all ties together. We will look at our role as Church will be as we begin re-engaging our post-pandemic community. Also, last week we introduced elements back into worship like bulletins, hymnbooks and pew Bibles. Come and see what we are adding back this week!
Friends, it’s been so wonderful to see your faces again in worship! How I’ve missed you! For those of you who have not come back to in-person worship, we are eager to welcome you back home and can’t wait to see you! Friends bring friends to church so be thinking of who you can invite to join you this week. Perhaps there’s a new neighbor, a colleague, or some other parents on your child’s sports team waiting to be asked to find community. I’ll see you Sunday! I am
Your pastor and friend,
