Dear Family and Friends of First Pres,
Let me begin by saying thank you for allowing me the time away to grieve the death of Kelly’s mom, Jane Thompson. Although we all knew she wasn’t well, once her health turned the corner, it turned quickly. Jane was a big part of my life for forty years, and the time away was very healing for Kelly and me.
This week we are looking at two texts. One is Philippians 3:17-4:3, where the Apostle Paul is urging the church to stay focused on the majors and not the minors. Our preaching text is from one of the Song of Ascents, Psalm 133. I shall be building my thoughts around the title, “Nothing Works if We Don’t Get the Basics Right.” Please read ahead for Sunday and prepare yourself for worship and engaging the Word.

Just a reminder that we are following the trends of the COVID-19 virus in our community so that we can work towards in-person worshiping again. The Session agreed that once the number of ER visits in Broward County decline due to COVID and flu-like symptoms, and the number of positive cases as a percentage of overall tests, or total positive tests decline for two straight weeks, then we will begin to rev up the engines to begin in-person worship again. The trends have been tracking well this past week and we are hopeful these safe trends continue. Please know we want to get back worshiping together as soon as we can; your pastors have done pastoral care with COVID patients and we can assure you that it is not something you want to get.
Friends, know I love you and I can’t wait to see you Sunday!
Your pastor and friend,
