Dear family and friends,
Last week’s scripture from Micah was God’s way of reminding the people of Israel to live into their identity as a people whose hearts are grounded in doing justice, demonstrating loving-kindness, and walking humbly with the Lord. This gave us pause to reflect upon what our own church’s identity is and whether we are living into it.
In 2019, the Session worked on an identity statement for First Pres. After prayer and a lot of deliberation, it believes our church’s identity is to be known as a congregation that is sharing the Good News of Jesus, is an inspiring Christ-focused presence in our community and is transforming Fort Lauderdale and beyond. How are we going to do that? We are going to live intentional Christian lives, love unconditionally those around us, and give generously of our resources and spiritual gifts. You will see this reflected in our affirmation of faith in our bulletin this Sunday.
This week, we will be looking at Matthew 5:13-15. Ruminate on this text and listen to how the Spirit speaks to you through it. What do these verses mean to you?
Lastly, don’t forget we have our annual congregational meeting this Sunday, February 9, 2020 immediately following the 11:00 a.m. service. The business will be to receive the budget for 2020, to determine whether or not to drop the term “Designated” from Pastor Merchant’s call, and to approve the calls for all three pastors. You will also receive the church’s Annual Ministry Impact Report which highlights what has happened this past year as well as some dreams for 2020!
Bring a friend or colleague to worship with you Sunday! Live intentionally, love unconditionally, and give generously! I am.
Your pastor and friend,
