Looking Ahead

Dear family and friends of First Pres,

This week we have two wonderful texts to chew on for our Communion Sunday.  The first reading will be from the Beatitudes, Matthew 5:1-12.  The preaching text will be from Micah 6:1-8.  Both of our scriptures paint the picture of what a true disciple of God in Christ looks like.  They answer the central question of “What does it looks like for you and me to live a holy life?”  If we had to choose a standard by which to measure our spiritual walk, these are the texts we would use.  Take time reading and chewing on these texts and see if you can see why I make that bold claim.

Your Session met this past week and has called for our Annual Congregational Meeting to be held after the 11:00 a.m. service on Sunday, February 9, 2020.  The purpose of this meeting is threefold:

  1. To receive our Ministry Impact Report (annual report) looking at 2019 as well to hear the report on the budget for 2020;
  2. To annually approve the terms of call for your three pastors; and
  3. To act upon the recommendation from the Session to drop the term “Designated” from Rev. Nic Merchant’s’ title.

For those of you who may not remember, Nic was hired at a time when the church was still looking for a Senior Pastor and the desire of the church was to hire an associate pastor for a designated two-year term to evaluate “the fit” with the new pastoral leadership team.  I personally believe we have a great pastoral team at First Pres and there is no doubt as to who I would like to continue serving with as our Associate Pastor for Spiritual Formation: Nic! Please plan on coming to this important annual meeting.

Remember you are a beloved child of God! Live intentionally, love extravagantly, and give generously! I am.

Your pastor and friend,

Patrick
