This past week, we began looking at Luke 15 and the stories of the lost sheep and the lost coin. We realized that the story is really more about the Shepherd than the sheep and the diligent, searching woman than it is about the coin. The first two parables of Luke 15 are about expanding our understanding of God both in how God acts in our lives, as well as who God is.
This Sunday, we are going to look at the third parable in Luke 15: The Parable of the Prodigal Son
, and if you worship at 11 a.m., you will be a part of the baptism of Nic and Amy Merchant’s sweet daughter, Hannah!
Our focus this week is Luke 15:11-24
. This is a packed parable and it will require us to spend a few weeks on it. This Sunday, we are not going to look at the prodigal son per se; on the contrary, we are going to look at the story of the Extravagant Father. On Sunday, September 29, 2019, we will focus upon the elder brother and see the story from his perspective. Bring your Bibles from home so you can mark them up as we study this rich parable. There is a reason why the author, Luke, devotes so much space to these three stories.
Just a reminder that next Sunday, September 29, 2019 we will have two major events. The first is a Congregational Meeting to hear the report of the church’s Nominating Committee and elect our newest Elders and Deacons. We will also be celebrating the wonderful Barbara Yatrousis’ retirement, both in worship as well as with a reception following the 11 a.m. service! Please plan on joining us on this important and festive day.
Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Go winsomely share the story of Jesus and be His tangible hands and feet in our world, in and around Broward and beyond! I am
