Dear family and friends of First Presbyterian!
There are so many people who worked hard last Sunday to host Rev. Masten’s Installation and Reception
and I cannot begin thanking each of you enough! For those of you who missed it, we had a powerful time in worship and learned that Jesus sends all of us in the church out as family members working on a farm in order to harvest what God has waiting for us in the world.
Luke 10: 2
has Jesus remind us, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” The sermon’s challenge was to do two things. First, we were to ask ourselves if as a Christian, we are a spiritual consumer or a harvester for the Lord. Second, we were asked to set our phone or watch alarms for 10:02 every morning so that we will be reminded to pray for harvesters for the Lord. At staff meeting Tuesday, about five different alarms went off around the table at the same time – yup, 10:02 – and we all laughed and asked for laborers for the harvest that awaits us in Fort Lauderdale and beyond. It was awesome!
This Sunday, we continue in Luke with a story I’m hesitant to preach on because it is a story you have heard before and more than likely know well. Luke 10: 25-37
is the well-known story of the “Good Samaritan” and I personally wonder, “What can I add to this text that’s not already been said?” Well, the Spirit will not let me put this story aside, so pre-read Luke 10
and see how the text speaks to you!
For those of you waiting for just the right time to join the church, Rev. Masten is meeting folks this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in room 200 of the Neumann Center in order to welcome you into the life of First Pres Fort Lauderdale! Either email me
at the church if you want to come, or simply show up Sunday morning and we will set you up!
Remember who you are – you are a beloved child of God! Share the winsome news of Jesus and let’s be an inspiring Christ-focused presence in this city and transform the world beyond! I am
Your pastor and friend,
