Dear family and friends of First Pres,
This week the lectionary has us bid the Gospel of John adieu for a while as we now settle into Luke’s Gospel readings over the next several weeks. Last week, we spent some time looking at the Trinitarian nature of God and learned that Jesus promises the Church the Holy Spirit to enlighten us with the Spirit of Truth as opposed to a cultural spirit of truthiness. If we want to know what Truth is, then we hold up our notions and ideas to the light of Christ’s ethics, morals, and behaviors as He related to God and others.
This Sunday we are looking at Luke 8: 26-39
. It is one of the longest single stories in the Gospel accounts and is a wonderful summary of the purpose, life, and ministry of Jesus in our world. Take some time and read all of Luke 8
in its entirety and see what it says to us as Church and our identity in this community.
If you will remember, the Session recently indicated that our Church identity is that we are known to Share the Good News of Christ, inspiring a Christ-focused presence in Fort Lauderdale by transforming our community and beyond.
Looking ahead two weeks toward Sunday, July 7, 2019, we will be celebrating the formal Installation for Pamela Masten as Associate Pastor for Congregational Care. Please note there is only one service that morning at 11 a.m. and we will host a light reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall to welcome Pam to our family! We are blessed she is with us, so please make a point to come and celebrate her and her ministry on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Remember who you are, you are a baptized child of God! Share the winsome Good News of Jesus and be His hands and feet in our swirly world! I am
