Looking Ahead

Dear family and friends of First Pres,
I am still drawing inspiration from our incredible young people from last Sunday’s Youth Sunday! Their prayers, music, enthusiasm, words of proclamation, and inspiration have buoyed my spirit all week long! What an incredible group of young women and men we have in this congregation! I look at them and see a church who has taken her baptismal vows to these young people seriously!
This week is Pentecost Sunday and I direct you to two texts to reflect upon before we gather. The first is Genesis 11:1-9 and the preaching text is Acts 2:1-15. These two texts are often placed together and as you read and ponder them, see if you can determine why they are! Verse 15 really pops out to me and makes me ask myself, “What do the people in Fort Lauderdale see when they look at you and me, members of First Pres?”
It is a question of our church identity and how others see and experience us. This Sunday, we will begin looking at a question the Session has been grappling with over the last few months, and that is First Pres’ identity. Pentecost is a wonderful day to remember why we do what we do!
Rev. Masten is hosting a new Member’s Connection this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for an hour. Some of you may have questions about the church, or want to learn about joining the church, and our Membership Connection is designed just for you! If you’d like to join the church, come see Pastor Pam in Room 200 of the Neumann Center immediately across from the elevator! Email our Membership Coordinator, Susan Christian, or phone her at (954) 598-5360.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend! Be sure to invite and bring a friend or colleague with you and let them experience a church Where Faith Comes Alive! I am
Your pastor and friend,
