Dear family and friends of First Pres,
This Sunday, we will be looking at Acts 16: 6-15 and will meet the very first disciple from what we would call ancient Europe! As you read this text in preparation for the weekend, please see if you can develop a character-sketch about them. Who are they? What do they do for a living? Where did the story’s action take place? What day of the week was it? Let’s put into practice what Pastor Nic spoke about last week with regards to the vital need to read scripture.
I want to ask a question to some of you: Why haven’t you joined the church community yet?
Years ago, in my first congregation in northwest Georgia, I spoke one day to a man named Fred Abbott. “Fred, are you a member of the church?” Fred shook his head, “no.” I pressed him asking, “Fred, why not? You’ve been coming here for as long as I have been here, and I assumed you were a member. Why haven’t you joined?”
I’ll never forget Fred’s answer. He smiled at me and said, “Preacher, the reason I haven’t joined this church is because no one has asked me to join.” I was bowled over as Fred had been attending the church for years! The only thing I could say to him was, “Fred, do you want to join the church?” He immediately said, “Yes! I’d love to!”
This Sunday, we are hosting a Membership Connection at 9:30 a.m. You can grab some breakfast and take it to Room 200 in the Neumann Center and visit with Pastor Pam and other members. It’s a low-pressure way to meet some new friends and join the church! What are you waiting for? Call or email Susan Christian at (954) 598-9360, and let her know if you would like to come.
Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Winsomely share the news of Jesus Christ and be His hands and feet to the world! I am your pastor and friend,
