Dear family and friends of First Pres,
Lenten blessings to you and those you love! I pray your Lenten devotionals are as meaningful to you as they are for me. For those attending the Wednesday evening class on “He Chose the Nails,” readings are provided for you. If you are not attending, I encourage you to find the daily lectionary readings on the PCUSA website
or Google “PCUSA daily lectionary readings 2019.”
This week, our preaching texts come from Isaiah 55:1-9
and Luke 13:1-9
. I encourage you to take some time and look over them before the weekend and see if you can figure why they go together. Specifically, our texts deal with our trying to assume the mind of God, as well as the theological conundrums posed by the issues of theodicy (the study of the question, “why and when bad things happen to good people”). As we prepare for Lent, it is important for us to admit there are those times we try to second-guess what God is doing in our lives or in the lives of others. Bring a friend this Sunday to worship as we wrestle with these questions!
Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Proclaim the Good News of Jesus wherever you go and be His loving hands and feet to the world! I am
Your pastor and friend
