Dear family and friends of First Pres,
Happy New Year from my home to yours! Last week in worship, we looked at Paul’s text in Colossians 3:12-17 and noted how he taught us how to get dressed up in 2019! Instead of following resolutions, we looked at how Paul encouraged us to put on the wardrobe of Christ which is made up of love, peacefulness, and thankfulness.
This week we are celebrating the Christian festival of Epiphany and we will be looking at a very familiar Story from Matthew’s Gospel, 2:1-12. I encourage you to read it ahead of our gathering and see if you can notice what you haven’t noticed before! How many of the other Gospels have this Story? Who were these “Kings from the East”? How might this text be seen as “political” in nature? How do you fit in the text?
Please be aware that the Las Olas Art Fair will be taking place this Saturday and Sunday, January 5-6, 2019, and there will be road closures in the area for the event. Make sure to leave early on Sunday to make it to worship on time.
Finally, our Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC) has chosen a candidate for our position of Associate Pastor for Congregational Care. She is scheduled to be visiting us next weekend, January 11-13, 2019, and will preach all three services on the 13th. We will hold a Congregational Meeting on January 13 at the end of the 11 a.m. worship service to vote upon the APNC’s recommendation.
Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Winsomely share the Good News of Jesus and let’s be His hands and feet to the world! I am
Your pastor and friend,
