Dear family and friends at First Pres,
I pray your Thanksgiving days were full of joy and celebration for all that God is doing in your life. Kelly and I took a whirlwind trip to Seattle to see our daughter, Lauren, and her beau; he’s definitely son-in-law material, should he ask my permission!
Nic spoke last Sunday on our relationship with Jesus, the King or Sovereign over our life. Christ the King is the climax of the Christian year as it celebrates the ending of one “church calendar year.” Sunday we start the Christian New Year off anew with the first Sunday of Advent. Interestingly, the lectionary has us looking forward to the “second coming (advent)” of Christ this first Sunday of the church year before it helps us look backwards to the “first coming (advent)” of Jesus born in the manger and this is what we are going to look at this week.
Go ahead and read our scripture from Luke 21:25-36 and begin dissecting it before we meet Sunday. Make note of how it makes you feel and begin reflecting on why we were asked to remember the Second Advent of Jesus first. Why would we begin the Christian calendar year off with the end of the Story first?
Thank you to all who made this week’s Christmas on Las Olas event so special. Your Membership Team did a great job of spreading the good news about all we are doing here! Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Be the winsome hands and feet of Jesus Christ in our swirly world! I am
Your pastor and friend,
