Dear family and friends of First Pres,
This Sunday marks the kick-off of an exciting new year in the life of our church! Rally Day kicks off at 10:30 a.m. and runs through 1 p.m. and is the time for you and your family to come and see how to get plugged into ministries, activities, and studies for the new school year!
You want to learn what it means to be a Presbyterian? Come and sign up for my class. Do you want to learn how to get your child or youth engaged? Come and find out! So you want to explore ways you can get involved with the church’s ministry? I’ll see you on Sunday and you can find out! This Sunday you can learn everything about Christian Education offerings (and get a sneak peek at what Mary Helen Merchant will be teaching!) to learning how to download the church’s membership directory and getting the church app installed on your phone! We will have food, games and activities for children all the way to adults.
My message this Sunday will be building on the thoughts from Mark 7: 24-30.
As we begin to start building upon our mutual basic Christian Knowledge, we will encounter an interesting story whereby Jesus gets “schooled” by an unlikely teacher. The text gives us a glimpse to a side of Jesus we oftentimes do not see or talk about.
This week in your bulletin, you will receive a bookmark that outlines the Thirty Core Competencies that First Pres is going to be building upon in our future. The bookmark outlines ten items Christ-Followers are to be familiar with and know. Based upon what we know, we then will learn in depth about ten basic Christian practices or disciplines we can use to grow our faith. Finally, it outlines ten basic virtues Scripture calls us to emulate as we grow into the women and men God dreams us to become.
The purpose of this focus on the thirty core competencies is to answer the often asked question, “How do I grow my faith deeper?” This is a great weekend to come and discover the way for doing just that!
Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Proclaim the Good News of Jesus wherever you go and be His loving hands and feet to the world! I am
Your pastor and friend,
