Sunday evening at the beach was a great time spent relaxing as a church family. If you were not able to join us I hope you will put the next cookout taking place on August 5 on your calendar. The afternoon rain made for a beautiful summer evening, particularly when paired with food on the grill and sand between the toes. Dare I say it was “restful”?
In worship we have been exploring what happens when the Word of God comes into contact with the people of God. Two weeks ago we examined how Herod responded to John the Baptist and last week we unpacked the Biblical understanding of rest as Jesus implored the disciples to “Come away and rest.” This week we will dive into John’s Gospel account of the feeding of the five thousand and Jesus walking on water. When the disciples see Jesus walking towards them they are terrified, and Jesus responds by saying, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” How do those same words speak to us now in 2018?
You will find it helpful to read John 6:1-21 as you prepare for worship this Sunday. I look forward to seeing you there.
