We are moving into the third week of Lent as we make our way to Holy Week and Easter. Last week, we reflected on Jesus’ words to Peter and the others about picking up our crosses and following him. We noted that ‘picking up crosses’ is a conscious choice we make and I challenged us to think about what God wants you and me to put down in order to pick the Cross of Jesus up. This week we are moving from Mark’s gospel to the Gospel of John.
We will be looking at Jesus “going to church” in John 2: 13-22. This is one of those rare moments when we see the angry side of Jesus in scripture and we will look at what caused him to become so upset with the worship practices of his day, as well as how those worship practices are related to people’s understanding of God’s relationship with them. In preparation for Sunday’s worship, be thinking about why you come to worship (or not) and how does your understanding of Sunday morning relate with your relationship with our Lord.
There are so many exciting things happening at our church and if you have not been in a while, come on back home! What you will discover is that the Spirit is moving, and faith is coming alive!
