Dear Friends,
As we approach the third Sunday in Advent, we are working our way toward the Christmas Celebration. One of the things I do during Advent is to read the birth accounts in Matthew’s and Luke’s Gospels. I highly recommend this to you and try to imagine those who experienced this event so very long ago.
Luke writes, “AND THE ANGEL SAID TO THE SHEPHERDS, ‘BE NOT AFRAID, I BRING YOU GOOD NEWS, FOR TO YOU IS BORN THIS DAY IN BETHLEHEM A SAVIOR, WHO IS CHRIST THE LORD.’ AND SUDDENLY THERE WAS WITH THAT ANGEL A MULTITUDE OF THE HEAVENLY HOSTS PRAISING GOD AND SAYING, ‘GLORY TO GOD, AND ON EARTH PEACE AMONG PEOPLE WITH WHOM GOD IS PLEASED.'”
I added these words from Luke because if you look at the world we live in today, you may have questions….did the angels make a mistake, were they wrong, did they misunderstand what God was doing in that Bethlehem birth, will there ever be peace on earth? The scripture readings for Sunday are Luke 2: 8-14 and John 14: 25-31.
Please consider bringing someone to church with you as we move toward the Christmas Celebration. That would be a wonderful Christmas gift you could give to them.
With love and gratitude for you,
Rev. Dr. Robert W. Bohl
