On Saturday, November 18, 2017, more than 200 volunteers from First Pres, FPC Boy Scout Troop 190, the Nova Southeastern University nurses, Plantation High School students, Kirk Singers, and Rotary, packed Thanksgiving baskets for more than 750 families in Broward County. The families who received the baskets were selected by the following agencies: Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Lauderhill Point, Broward Gardens, Florida Power and Light and Family Embrace.
“Along with serving the families and the ‘thanks’ we receive, Thanksgiving Baskets is as much a ministry to our volunteers as it is to our families! So many come together for the good of the community and church to make it a successful day,” said Sally Botkin. First Pres would like to thank Publix for their $2,000 donation and loading all the turkeys, Home Depot for providing grocery carts, Rotary for their $4,000 donation and Presbytery of Tropical Florida for contributing to this wonderful community effort. “The highlight of the day, for me, was the giant hug and beaming smile I received from our newest First Presbyterian Habitat homeowner – S. Harris,” said Kathy Craven.
