Sunday, June 4, 2017 is Pentecost Sunday and we celebrate God’s gifting of the Holy Spirit to the early church. I hope to see you this Sunday as our youth lead us in worship.
Four high school seniors (Gabrielle Fickinger, Alejandra Pocock, Danelle Smith, and Ryan Tilbrook) will deliver sermons, drawing on their relationship with Jesus Christ and how their experiences at First Pres have helped cultivate this relationship. These seniors were chosen for their commitment to Christ and their extensive involvement in church youth activities throughout high school. The Kirk Singers (the high school choir) and Chapel Singers (middle school choir) will sing, and other graduates will lead in all aspects of worship.Sunday is also “Graduate Sunday” and the service will highlight the importance of faith in young lives at First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale. The church asks the students to conduct the worship service one day a year and this year, the youth-led “Graduate Sunday” service will take place at all three services.
It is at this annual service that the church also awards college scholarships. This year, 50 scholarships will be given to provide financial support to college students. In its over 40 years of existence, the scholarship program has provided more than 1,200 scholarships totaling more than $1.4 million.
My encouragement to you this week is to take the time to sit down and read Acts 2:1-13 as you prepare for worship.
The Kirk Singers will present a concert this Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary. They are not making a formal concert tour this year but are taking this opportunity to sing a culmination of their favorite music, as well as recognize our graduating seniors and other attendance awards. Everyone is invited to come hear them sing!
See you there,
