Meet First Presbyterian’s Interim Director of Youth & College Ministries
Get to know Chandler Gelb, First Presbyterian’s Interim Director of Youth & College Ministries! Read below for some full insights on Chandler, such as her favorite hobbies and reasons why she joined the First Presbyterian team.
What do you love most about working with the youth in our community?
I love that every day is different. Working with youth is refreshing because they crave authenticity and have fresh perspectives. They see a world filled with possibilities and questions, and I feel incredibly blessed that I have the opportunity to help them navigate the direction God is leading them.
What is your favorite hobby?
Definitely photography, more specifically travel photography. I love exploring and being able to capture the beautiful places I find myself.
How did you get involved with First Pres?
I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, having attended Happyland Day school and I was active in both youth group and Kirk singers. I feel lucky to have had First Pres be my church home for such formative years. Almost two and half years ago I moved back to Fort Lauderdale, after having lived in Thailand. When I came back I started working with our youth ministry program. I’m thrilled to be part of the First Pres family and I’m looking forward to continuing to serving our youth.
What is the most important lesson you try to bestow upon the youth at First Pres?
Openness. You never know how God will use you, when he will call upon you, or who he will put in your life to teach you something. If we’re open to allowing God into our hearts, we become open to living fuller more purposeful and exciting lives.
If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be?
Harper Lee. To Kill A Mockingbird is my absolute favorite book, I have over 20 different copies, in 3 different languages.
