Dear family and friends of First Pres,
Nic did a great job last week reminding us that as you and I engage the world, we need to be fully aware and
acknowledge where we are and the type of culture we are living in. I particularly loved the quote he cited from C.S. Lewis that says we are “living in occupied territory,” and God is calling us “to be active saboteurs in His campaign against evil.” How are we to do this? Pastor Nic then went on to describe how God has given and gifted each of us some spiritual equipment to use to maneuver through our swirly days while living in that occupied land. This week, we are turning our direction back to Ad Fontem
, the Source of our faith and the Thirty Core Christian Competencies our congregation seeks to develop.
Our text this week comes from Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23.
It provides a wonderful springboard for beginning to look at some of our competencies, the ten basic virtues we are called to express. Our text from Mark begins to outline where our Christian virtues originate and are born, i.e. our hearts. Specifically, Jesus speaks about the genesis of good table manners in God’s eyes.
Please do not forget this Wednesday’s Ministry Fair beginning at 5:30 p.m. and then next Sunday’s Rally Day on September 9. These are great ways to learn how and where to plug into ministry and growth opportunities in the Church!
Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Proclaim the Good News of Jesus wherever you go and be His loving hands and feet to the world! I am
Your pastor and friend,
