This weekend is shaping up to be very exciting with our Kirk Singers and their musical, Footloose, being performed, new members joining at two services, and also two baptisms at 9:30 a.m.! It is exciting to see faith coming alive in our community during this season of Lent!
This week, we are going to look at one of the most well-known, quoted, beloved scriptures in the Bible and see if we really understand what it says. Let me give you a hint: Growing up, it was not unusual to see a shirtless man sitting in the bleachers of an NFL game sporting a multi-colored wig and face paint while holding up a sign with this Bible verse on it. Do you remember the verse he held up? John 3:16!
Our scripture for this fourth week in Lent is John 3: 14-21. Specifically, we are looking at our basic Christian practice of what it means to imitate Jesus and piece together what John 3:16 has to do with that. We often understand this text as a quick passcode to get into heaven but as we shall see, it is much richer and deeper than its prima facie impression; in other words, “to believe” is more than a simple mental agreement.
Our worship continues to build as we make our way to Easter. Last week, 645 folks worshipped with us, and we still have seats to fill! Who can you invite to come and worship with you this week? All you have to do is invite them and let God do the rest!
Remember who you are, you are a child of God! Share the winsome Story of Jesus Christ and be His hands and feet in our world! I am
